94pts/5star Sam Kim Wine Orbit 2025
Under the direction of Chief Winemaker, John Kavanagh, our winemaking philosophy places a premium on the character of each vineyard. Our 2024 Pinot Gris is made from individual vineyard parcels, gently pressed on arrival and cool fermented in stainless steel to maintain its clean, fresh flavour. A small portion of the fruit was fermented in old French oak puncheons to add extra texture and complexity to the wine. The wine was then aged on light lees before being blended and bottled.
The 2025 season started early with warm spring weather, strong canopy growth, and excellent flowering, leading to high yields. Te Kairanga avoided spring frosts, but cooler, wet weather from mid-December to late January slowed progress. Ripening was steady, and harvest spanned 6.5 weeks. Despite some disease and weather pressure, most fruit reached full ripeness.
Elegant aromatics of nashi and pear, layered with exotic pie, roasted nuts, and floral notes. The dry palate is refined, with ripe fruit, seamless flow, and added texture and spice from barrel aging. A full, balanced finish completes the wine. This Pinot Gris pairs beautifully with Chicken Yakitori.
